About Us

Snow Dynamics offers backcountry avalanche courses and avalanche mapping in the Western Chugach mountains of Alaska . Our goal is to provide quality, high standard avalanche courses to backcountry users and specified projects for interested parties. The three core values we have adopted are: Safety first decision making, a higher standard of avalanche education, and avalanche industry enhancement through information exchange and avalanche research.

Sean Dewalt is the owner of Snow Dynamics, and has been since 1997. He became interested in snow science and the avalanche phenomenon after attending a ten day Canadian Avalanche Association C.A.A.T.S. professional program in Whistler, B.C. Canada in 1997. Since then he has studied avalanche safety in Colorado, Washington, Alberta and Alaska. Sean is a firm believer in avalanche education, and his experience in Alaska has rewarded him with diverse work from weather service contracts on the North slope, and heli-guiding in Juneau to State and Federal avalanche contracts. He is one of only a few avalanche specialists to hold a Level 3 avalanche certification.  Sean prefers powder skiing on glacial terrain in the Chugach Range of Alaska.

Ted Purdy is a lifelong snowboarder and snowmachiner with extensive backcountry experience in Alaska, Utah, Washington, California, and Colorado.  Ted has been formally trained as a helicopter ski guide and guides for Alaska Heliskiing in Haines, Alaska.  He currently helps teach the company’s annual guide school.  Ted specializes in safety and logistics for film crews, working primarily with Absinthe Films.  He is certified Level 2 Avalanche and Wilderness Advanced First Aid, and has trained in glacier travel, crevasse rescue, and high-angle rescue.  Ted’s passions lie in finding and conquering high-angled descents in the Chugach and Chilkat Ranges.

Warren Rowe received his guide training in Canada through the C.S.G.A at Mike Wiegeles, and his avalanche training with the Canadian Avalanche Association.  He then applied his education at Chugach Powder Guides where he was employed for six seasons as a ski and snowboard guide.  His passion for exploration and snowmachining enabled him to work closely with Frontier Films and Turnagain Hardcore in Turnagain Pass.   Warren has been instructing for Snow Dynamics since the formation of the company in 1997.  He can be found planning events and more at Alyeska resort when he is not teaching avalanche safety.
